Hearing Aid Maintenance
When you are fitted with hearing aids at our clinic, we will provide you with a starter kit to help keep them clean and working well. This usually includes:
- A wax guard
- Cleaning wire
- Brush
- Wax pick
We will also show you how to clean your hearing aids safely and correctly during your appointment. Regular cleaning keeps your devices in good condition and helps avoid common issues caused by wax or moisture build-up.
Tip: Wipe your hearing aids daily with a dry tissue or cloth to remove any dirt or wax.
Quick Fixes for Common Hearing Aid Problems
If your hearing aids are not working as expected, there are a few simple things you can check at home:

Sound is distorted or weak.
- Remove the battery and check it’s inserted properly.
- Clean the battery contacts and the surface of the battery.
- If moisture is the issue, try using a hearing aid dehumidifier, or bring them into our clinic where we can dry them out using a professional dry chamber.

Helpful Tips for Everyday Hearing Aid Care
- Keep devices clean: Remove any visible earwax and wipe your hearing aids daily.
- Avoid water: Do not wear your hearing aids in the shower, while swimming, or in heavy rain.
- Keep them dry: If they do get damp, remove the batteries and store them in a dry kit. Never use a hair dryer or microwave to dry them!
- Watch out for sprays: Hair products, perfumes, and aftershaves can damage hearing aids. Remove them before using these products.
- Avoid extreme heat: Do not leave your hearing aids in a hot car or direct sunlight.
- Use drying tools: Ask us about hearing aid dryers and moisture-removing crystals.
- Come in monthly: We recommend a monthly clean at our clinic to keep your devices in top condition.

Hearing Aid Batteries and Chargers
Hearing aid batteries should be kept in a dry place at room temperature. To make them last longer:
- Open the battery compartment at night (unless your device uses rechargeable batteries).
- Avoid storing batteries in hot or damp conditions.
- Use a proper storage case or battery holder.
Safe and Effective Ear Wax Removal
Ear wax build-up can cause hearing aids to stop working or lead to discomfort and hearing problems. Our clinic offers safe wax removal options:
Clean Ears Wax Removal Spray
